Canada Diagnostic Centres Acquires Shift Imaging in Alberta
CDC, backed by Novacap, expands its Canadian imaging footprint by acquiring Grande Prairie's Shift Imaging clinic.
Canada Diagnostic Centres (CDC), a Calgary-based diagnostic imaging provider backed by private equity firm Novacap, announced Monday the acquisition of Shift Imaging, a medical imaging clinic operating in Grande Prairie, Alberta. The deal extends CDC's community-focused diagnostic network further into northern Alberta, a region where access to imaging services has historically been limited compared to major urban centers.
CDC has positioned itself as one of Canada's leading community-based diagnostic imaging companies, and the Shift Imaging purchase reflects a broader consolidation trend sweeping the Canadian private diagnostic sector. Private equity-backed health platforms have increasingly pursued bolt-on acquisitions to build regional scale, improve operational efficiency, and meet growing patient demand for accessible imaging outside hospital settings.

Grande Prairie serves as a commercial and healthcare hub for much of northwestern Alberta, making Shift Imaging a strategically valuable addition. By absorbing an established local clinic rather than building from the ground up, CDC can immediately leverage existing patient relationships, equipment, and staff while integrating them into its broader service model.
Novacap, a Canadian private equity firm with a track record of healthcare sector investments, continues to support CDC's acquisition-driven growth strategy. The Shift Imaging deal signals that CDC's expansion push in Alberta is ongoing and that further targets in underserved Canadian communities could follow. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
