College students across the United States want formal instruction in cryptocurrency and blockchain technology, but a glaring gap in academic offerings is pushing them toward social media platforms for financial education, according to a new survey by crypto exchange OKX.

The poll highlights a significant disconnect between student demand and institutional supply. A separate review of accredited US business schools found that only about 28 percent currently offer blockchain-related courses, leaving the majority of students without a structured, credentialed path to learning about digital assets.

With universities slow to adapt their curricula, students are filling the void through YouTube channels, Reddit threads, TikTok influencers, and other social platforms — sources that carry little accountability and no academic rigor. The findings arrive as crypto markets continue attracting younger retail participants at scale. Institutional interest in digital assets has surged in recent years, and employer demand for blockchain literacy in finance, law, and technology roles is rising — creating both urgency and opportunity for universities willing to modernize their course catalogs.
